CFF Paleo Challenge Time

In a nutshell, eating paleo means you are eating what our ancestors, recent and distant ate.  Lean meats, veggies, some fruit, nuts and seeds.  That’s it, very simple, yet there are many complexities that we will dive into this month.  Click here for a very insightful background into some of those complexities and explanations of this way of eating.

The purpose for us doing a yearly nutritional challenge has many facets.  For starters, it’s that “holiday” we have every fall where we look at nutrition, together as a gym.  What better time of year to talk about food than the time of harvest, autumn.  It’s the one time of year asking people about their meals is less intimate of a question.  Instead of a look of, “that’s none of your business!”, you’ll get a look of, “OMG, I can’t wait to share this new recipe I tried!”  It’s that time of year you can look forward to making some changes and breaking bad habits, picking up good ones.  It’s time, to detox.  Detox from sugar, carbs, gluten, lactose, etc…  It’s that time.

As coaches, we have little influence on people outside of the gym walls.  At least, that’s the way it feels.  When you are in our box, you do our WOD.  We program, you work, and reap the benefits.  What you ate before you came, what you eat afterwards…that’s up to you.  I’m not saying we can’t help, but you, the ATHLETE, have total control over your nutrition.  And when I say total control, I mean, no one else shoves food in your mouth but you.  Now, some of you may feel out of control.  Trust me, we’ve all had those Ben & Jerry nights!  (Joe Youngblood reference!)  This challenge serves as an educational and nutritional monthly focus of learning and practicing to eat for prime physical, mental, and emotional development – instead of eating for __________ (fill in with appropriate adjective).

So, take this challenge as a rare opportunity to compete in a different way with the fellow athletes in the gym, and with yourself.  We will have clinics, blood draws, recipe swaps, mini-challenges, prizes, and much much more this year.  This is version 2.0, and we are more motivated than ever to bring nutrition to the forefront of conversation.  So, in the mean time, read these blogs, do some independent research, and get ready to change your life.
